Russell explains: "I dreaded all those Who-lore legends that the Cybermen were difficult to write, but I had a great time. I love writing them! You really have to put yourself into a logical, emotionless frame of mind. I probably wasn't much fun to be around for a few weeks. No change there, some would say. But the monsters and villians are such a vital part of Doctor Who. I don't know how you could not enjoy them. And it was nice to ramp them up in scale: they were "new" creations in Rise of the Cybermen, but now they've got a lot more strength and technology."
