“We kept the beach scene as secret as possible, and that scene wasn't included in the shooting script - just cos they have a tendency to be left lying around. Also bear in mind that it came slap bang in the middle of production, not at the end , so Billie still had five more episodes to film after that! The secret stayed for once."”

Russell explains: "Having ended Series One in the far future I thought it was time to bring the threat right back down to modern-day Earth. The monster on your doorstep - there's nothing finer. It's time to pay off regular viewers by tying up elements that have been drip-fed throughout the run, and always to raise the stakes for the Doctor and Rose's survival - and Jackie, too - to the ultimate degree. I had this mapped out well in advance - I suppose since before the end of filming last year, around about January, February - just as I've known for months how Series Three is going to end!"
