  1. Its been a long, long time since you had us playing 'apple' apple' 'apple' on "Why Don't You?"

That superbrain machine you wrote into the show seems all so clear now. A prequel for Doctor Who i shouldn't dare wonder.

Keep up the good you big crazy welsh men; I miss the electric lemon though. (My photgrphic memory brigs joy once more.)

  3. I have just finished watching "queer as folk" the entire series on tv on demand. I can't believe what a great peice of writing it is. I watched it when it was first broadcast in 1999, "just after i came out" and it still makes me laugh at how accurate it depicts the gay lifestyle. I wonder if there will ever be a follow up series, i would love too see what it would be like. What a great piece of telly.

  4. Does anyone know what Russell's next project is going to be?

  5. hi i was wondreing if thair will be a 3 sires of tourchwood. i lke the 1 one and the 2 one it would be a shame if they didt have a 3 sires. i know thair is onley 3 of them left but it would be a nice cume back i would watch and show others would watch it to

  6. hello doctor who GOD

series 4 was by far the best, thankyou for entertaining my saturday nights

i read in the sun that freema has quit torchwood

    is this true?

  7. Hi Russell you have done your homework. Am I the only one to spot the word "RELS" a Dalek unit of measurement of some sort, also used in an old film "Daleks invasion of earth ??" Did you take it from that ?? I have remembered this from my childhood and when running a mobile disco in the 70s I build a sound to light unit and with a dymo label maker named the number of flashes per min Rels

    Cheers Dave

  8. A round of applause for you. Season four Season Finale was awesome.

  12. Dear Russell,

I just wanted to thank you for such a fantastic experience - my 8 year old son & I were lucky enough to get tickets to Doctor Who at the Proms and it was incredible My son asked me during it if he was dreaming or if it was real!!! He loved all the monsters appearing in the audience ( but kept looking over his shoulder to make sure no monster was entering our box!). The show was extremely powerful - Murray Gold's music is very moving and evocative. Personally, I felt that seeing Davros was the highlight of the show for me - Julian Beech was superb!!! The other highlight would have been seeing you (because you were apparently in the box right below us but we weren't able to look over due to the couple in front of us...). Freema was great and it was exciting to see Noel and Camille as well, but such a delightful surprise to see Catherine Tate as well! Poor old David Tennant doesn't know what he missed out on!!! Thank you, thank Murray Gold, thank the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra, thank everyone for an utterly enchanting, magical experience!!! I can't wait to re-live it again when it is shown on telly....

Jacqui from Plymouth (almost as far as Belgium!)

  13. Hi There Russel.

I would just like to say what a fantastic job you have made with Dr Who. In fact i would like to thank all involved for bringing back a nationl institution and making it great again. I have loved the Doctor since i was kid (the first Dr i remember was Peter Davidson. Fantastic!!!!!) and know thanks to you my Daughters love it . Charlie Jayne my youngest now even watches the really old episodes and she loves it all. Well done to you all and thanks very much.

    Ian

  14. Dr Mr Davies,

I've seen a lot of your work on TV, you became one of the names that get looked out for because its always worth watching anything you've been involved in. Your work is always outstanding and I greatly admire you skills.

I was a little surprised when I heard that you were to bring back Dr Who, I thought it was gone forever and was glad of that because it was spoiled for me by the way in which John Nathan Turner handled it. Having known the series from being a very small boy watching William Hartnell first encounter the Daleks, I knew the story and but had come to resent the lack of mystery and depth of the series had at the end.

Initially I could not imagine how he could be brought back, then Christopher Ecclestone gave him a heart and soul, more than ever before and David Tennant has developed that into a fully rounded character.

So, thank you for the return of the Doctor and for the high quality stories, acting and production - it is superb to watch and a joy to have an old childhood hero back, I hope you, and your team, have as much satisfaction from you acheicvement as as so many of us do.

I'm sorry you're leaving the series because I think you have been the heart of its 'regeneration' but I wish you well in your future work and shall continue to look out for your name as producer and writer because I know I shant be disappointed if you've been involved in anything.

    Thanks and Good Luck

    Phil

  16. Mr. Davies,

I know the chances of you ever reading this are quite slim! Even though, I would like to take a moment to thank you for the great job you have done with Doctor Who, Torchwood & Sarah Jane Adventures! My husband introduced me to the Doctor and while he has been a fan since he was a child, I have only known the Doctor for 3 seasons.

Our children are also huge fans, especially of the episodes that you wrote. You have an amazing talent! The way you tied together the ending of this season was amazing!!! How beautiful that you managed to find a way for the Doctor and Rose to be together for a lifetime! My husband, our children and myself included were on the edge of our seats for Stolen Earth and Journey's End!!! Never before had there been so many high fives, claps, tears, and shouts of joy for our viewing of DW! We enjoyed the way you finished the season greatly and we all know that NOBODY could have done anything close to what you wrote! Great job!

  17. hi russell its the question all classic who fans want to know..THE SEA DEVILS.....when will they return to our screens ?????????????

    please bring them back :-)

  18. Congratulations on Doctor Who, Torchwood and The Sarah Jane Adventures so far.

As there are only five episodes of Torchwood next year, does this mean that we will have a christmas special?.

  19. Russell, your work is done.

I was in Herculaneum last week and overheard a 12 year old telling his parents that he simply had to photograph a freize as he'd seen it in Dr Who.

    Keep up the good work.

  20. Hi Russel

I am a 14 year old girl who loves Dr who and thinks that you're a fantastic writer.

I would like to know how you got into screenwriting as it is something that i am very interested in and would like to know more about as a career.

Do you have any tips on how to write for shows like Dr Who?

Hope you get to read this

    Laura

  21. All,

For anyone interested, we have enabled downloading of our Doctor Who Indie track Blue Box on our myspace site. This track was written to coincide with the start of the last series (Series 4) and reflects the story of the Doctor's loneliness in being the last timelord and losing Rose.

It was loaded to our site just before the last series aired and has had some good responses. Due to numerous requests we have enabled the ability to download the track.

Hope you enjoy, Blue Box by The Red List:

    www.myspace.com/theredlist

PS. Loved the last series and the final two episodes were excellent and wrapped up Russell T Davies's storylines. (Although, I did think Rose and the cloned Doctor was a bit of a cop out, but you never know, she may return :))

  22. Hi Russell - Thank you so much for bringing us "Queer as Folk" never before have I ever seen a TV show that I felt I related to more than QAF I just wish it had of been around when I was a teenager it would have been great to see positive gay characters on TV.... And now of course I have to say BRAVO on the new Dr Who series which is just Brilliant..

I hope you get to read this - Steve

  23. Russell,

Thank you for re-invigorating Dr Who.

Thank you for keeping the theme tune, but changing the theme tune.

Thank you for the great companions...not a dud in sight.

Thank you for not resorting to gimmicky answers to the hard questions.

Thank you for getting my 5 children away from their games consoles and computers, and back in front of the telly where they belong!

My Partner doesn't like Dr Who - she does like Robert Carlyle and James Nesbitt - but her favourite is Robson Greene - so if he bacame the next Dr, that would make our household a very interesting place to live!

Good luck with all your future endevours - and don't be shy. Come and visit Melbourne, before the cost of fuel becomes so high, it becomes cheaper to go by boat!!!!

  24. If there is any auditions For sarah jane adventures send me an email please. will rose be added to comic maker

  25. Thanks Russell I thought you were brilliant at writing Doctor Who, Good Luck in your next Job.

    Thomas

  26. just watched the repeat of doctor who in pompeii

    they were like us

    as literate as us

they used to write on their walls

there's an atrium there that says....

remember the dance we danced together

you can hold out your hand and touch the past russell

they didn't just die, they danced

  27. I have been a fan of sci-fi since I was 6 and spending most of my recess and lunch breaks in libraries at school. I have often viewed sci-fi as the source of pure imagination as there are no boundaries when imagining a spaceship or a distant planet and it is writers like yourself that give me hope that there will be a return in the young using their imaginations once again.

Doctor Who fills the void in Australian TV for youngsters to experience the wonders from the minds of brilliant writers and directors - giving them a welcome break from the harshness of reality TV. Unfortunately, without an Aussie or two written into such shows they quickly lose interest from a lack of being able to relate to a character. (Please don't judge all Aussie actors by the likes of shows such as Neighbours {shudders when mentioning that show}).

OK so writing an Aussie into the show may not be ideal so how about a Doctor Who/Torchwood expo held in Sydney Australia? Australia is not the end of the Earth you know.....actually New Zealand is the end of the Earth......well they say you can see the end of the world from there! And Sydney has a fantastic Gay Mardi Gras in March each year (yeah I know, attempt to try and lure gorgeous gay men like yourself and John Barrowman to Australia)

Anyway thank goodness for the internet because less than patient Aussies have a way to view great shows that we wait ages for - the Christmas Special of Doctor Who from 2007 almost became the "Chrstmas-In-July" Special, being shown here June 29, 2008! And as for Torchwood???? Well some bozo made a HUGE mistake selling that fantastic show to a commercial station which has no idea of what viewers over 16 want, choosing to show rerun after rerun of Friends & Everybody Loves Raymond, rather than screen Torchwood Season 2.

OK so I prattled enough...love your work.

    Kisses to the "boys"!

  28. Hello,

I would just like to say a very big "thankyou".

The fourth series of Doctor Who was simply fantastic. All the episodes were captivating, and i would like to thank you and all your fellow writers and everyone who worked so hard to bring us all an edge of the seat series.

I would however like to pay homage to you, At Journeys End was without a doubt the greatest thing i have watched ever. The way you wrote it was inspiring. Thankyou for writing Donna Nobles final scenes so magnificantly, Catherine Tate really proved herself as an actress in this episode. I cried and still cry when i watch her.

Thankyou for all you have brought to Doctor Who.

I only wish i could write this thankyou better.

all the very best for whatever the future holds for you.

Best Wishes and a life time of thankyou's and congratulations,

    Georgina Collett x

  29. All your work is honestly amazing, but Queer As Folk stands out to me. I no its a silly long shot, but Im a 17 year old boy very soon to be 18 who wants his big break in his youth. I always intended to do acting but went into Media because of the better oppertunities, I want my taste of acting back and would love to do something like Queer As Folk. Sex scenes, drama, I want it and ill do it. Like i said its a silly long shot on here, but chances are increased of getting noticed.

    Sincerly

    Vinnie C.

  30. Hi Russell

I've got a concept for a new Science Fiction series called ''WILL TELLER'' on imaginecasting. I think you should see it.

    http://imaginecasting.com/titles/results/2905/will-teller/

  31. Dona's grandad (Bernard Cribbins) helped the DR. defeat the darleks in the 1967 film with Peter Cushin as the DR. Although the Dr made reference the Darleks trying to snatch the Earth before - the plot of the '67 film , Grandad's past never came to light. This seems to be the only loose end in the last episode, did you intend him to be an "in joke".

    Fantastic tv by the way.

  32. I loved the series 4 finale, at least Rose has her Doctor

  33. Just watched the finale, the episode with Davros.

When Doctor Who came back..... Christopher Eccleston, The episode with the Slitheen was very good..... dramatic, but with a seriously funny twist.

Thank you Russel, at last somebody on TV who can keep me entertained... I need something quite busy to keep me interested & you've done a fantastic job..... be it good (variety of good storylines) bad (Rose Tyler, a bunch of Landoners, what do you think the Tardis is going to look like the inside of the Queen Vic next week?)or ugly (Jack Harkness...... UGGGGGGly, still if that's what does it for you so be it!).

Russel made a colourfull & dramatically powerful series & I thank him :)

  34. I think it would be good idea if in the 5th series of DOCTOR WHO, i think The Doctor should go to Chantho's planet Malcassario, homeworld of the insect-like Malmooth race.

Chantho appeared in the 2007 episode ''UTOPIA'' which saw the return of The Master. I think British actor Damien Thomas from ''Shogun'' and the Blake's 7 episode ''Stardrive'' would make a excellent Malcassarion Emperor.

  35. Mr Davies

I have enjoyed the last two seasons of the new series of Dr Who, but have a few problems with some parts of the new series, firstly it as been said that Gallifrey as been destroyed by their sun going super nova, but how can the Tardis still travel in time and space because the time capsules including the Tardis where connected to gallifrey through the eye of armony but through your stories gallifrey and the eye of armony has been destroyed so how can the tardis still work and also you say that the dr is the last time lord in existance but what about the Rani, Susan, Romana

  36. Great work on the finale!

was curious on who the next companion might be

maybe Romana ? since we saw the return of the Master, a fellow timelord whom the the Doctor did not know was still alive or maybe not can't wait to find out

  37. Mr. Davies, the Doctor Who finale simply took my breath away, just as the finale of Torchwood broke my heart. I've been thrilled with all you've done to create a totally new Who-verse that is faithful to the tradition, but innovative and real and imaginative. The casting has been superb, especially David Tennant and John Barrowman. I especially appreciate your efforts to create strong female characters with heroic capabilities and to introduce the full spectrum of human sexuality. Congratulations on your creative triumph and thank you, thank you, thank you!

    Wishing you all the best

    Cynthia

    A longtime Whovian in America

  38. After thinking that I was to be possibly disappointed with the finale (or possibly it was the oncoming blues of the series ending) I was blown away....all the ends so neatly tied. Brilliantly written and immaculately performed by all. I am so going to miss Catherine Tate as she rates as my favourite companion - and as someone the same age at you - and a lifelong fangirl - that is a major compliment. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for all of the 4 series - you have restored my faith in Saturday Night television.

And can I just say - I LOVE the soundtrack to your site (well, I would!!!) and may have to keep it running while I work!

You are a genius Russell - long may your writing continue!

  39. Mr Davies, Sir, you are PURE GENIUS! :-) Dr Who goes from strength to strength, culminating in Saturday's incredible finale, which I doubt any writer/producer will ever be able to match! There was so much going on (all these clever hints during the series finally coming together) I had to watch it all again on the Sunday too. Brilliant, just brilliant. Don't know what on earth I'll be doing with my Saturday nights now .......

  40. loved the finale of doctor who series 4.

great to see all the companions again. loved the scene with all of them flying the tardis.

good idea for two doctors, dont think would of handled it well with david tennants doctor regenerating. both the two final episodes kept me glued to the tv all the time.

looking forward to the christmas special , having withdrawal symptoms already.

  41. Dear Mr Davies,

Thank you so very much for transporting me back to childhood! It's been such a wonderful rollercoaster ride of emotions and adventures watching Dr Who. What an escapism from every day 9-5 life. I'm 30 years old but have just simply loved the series along with many other of my peers. It's been the topic of conversation many times. I feel like I'm back to being 10 years old again with a world full of possibility!!

Thank you and the rest of the team for such incredible work. It won't be the same without you.

    Love Emma x

  42. Mr Davis,

This is literally a thankyou for bringing Dr Who to my generation. I do remember the Sylvester McCoy adventures as a child but nothing in previous years has given me such satisfaction as the current wave of Dr who. From Christopher Eccelston to David Tennant you have never failed to disappoint in anyway. I have thouroughly enjoyed both Dr who and Torchwood and I would just like to say that i hope there is more to come from your mind!!! Thanks for such a great creation and such TOP QUALITY entertaiment!!

    Sincere Regards

    Lee Parrott

P.s I am very aware that the trailer maker on the website is for younger people but being 27 yrs old i should say i had a lot of fun creating trailers, occupied me an many a night!!

    All the best!!

  43. Really enjoyed the end of season finale! I have watched Dr Who since 1967 when it was Patrick Troughton with 'Jamie' and 'Victoria'....we used to play Dr Who in the school playground!!! What I like best is that there are plenty of nods to those past series but the programme has been brought into the 21st century and is relevant to todays kids (and adults)! I know you are now bowing out of the series but I'm sure it will be in safe hands with Steven Moffat. You've certainly raised the bar very high with this programme, I hope it continues to go from strength to strength. Thank you.

  44. RTD And Team.

OH YESSS!!...This series was fantastic. Especialy the re introduction of Donna. CT was the best thing about the series...sue bloody purb!.

But did RTD just go and solve the BIGGEST Dr Who problem since its inception. I think he may well have! and heres how.....

As any true Who fan will no, Doctor Who also appears in two 1960s movies played by "Peter Cushing". Now these two films have always been known as remakes of the Dr Who series Doctor Who and the Daleks And Dr Who and the Dalek invasion of Earth. The big problem was that the Dr in the Movies was NOT a Time lord. he was an old man who had built a TARDIS......Come on your getting this now........With the introduction in Journys End of the Human Dr this would explain this....This ....Human Dr builds his own tardis...come on he is Brillliiaant!.....gets married has kids ..has grand kids ...hence Susen.....and therfore the Dr in the Peter Cushing movies IS the Doctor from Journys End......COME ON!!!!!

    Am i right or what!!

  45. And you just had to finish with all bells and whistles blowing...

    It was...brilliant!

I cannot remember ever having enjoyed a show so much, laughed so hard, been so excited ...and then cried the deepest hurt. I'm still reeling - it'll probably take me until the Christmas Special to get past it (unfortunately reinforcing the girlie stereotype, but there you go!)

    Love & hugs

  46. Dear Mr Davies,

I just read that contacting you is like trying to get a letter through to the Queen, but maybe in a lazy second you´ll come here and scan through the messages because most of them are praise and admiration for your work and of course my message is in the same spirit as well. Ever since I watched the series 4 finale yesterday I am kind of in a gloomy mood, since I know the Davies era is going to be over soon. I am 33, way too old to be affected like a kid, but I do feel a sense of loss of something already. I guess DW does makes us feel like kids again.

Doctor Who so far has been an amazing ride and I loved every second of it. I also loved Torchwood and The Sarah Jane Adventures. All seems to have rolled into one and led to the most wonderful conclusion in "The Journey´s End". You know what you wrote and you know how good it is, so I won´t go on about what I particularly loved about this wonderful finale.

But I also like to mention your other work I admire and love, namely "Queer as Folk", which I found wonderfully written and very compelling. Then "Bob and Rose" which I would have never spend a penny on, hadn´t you written it. "The Second Coming" which kept me talking about religion with my friend for hours and of course "Casanova" which introduced me to Tennants versatility and the idea of turning such an actually unlikeable character as Casanova into someone, who is not only likeable but also relatable and not mysogynic. Being a woman, this feels not like a small archievement.

However, what I mostly admire about your work is probably the way you let characters act and talk. There is always something very real about them, even if they are in extraordinary circumstances dealing with unlikely events. There is life in them and warmths and you can see how special everyone of them is, even if they don´t have superpowers or even if they have.

Time is precious and so is bandwrith, so I just add a quick Thank you and that I am looking forward to whatever you decide to do!

  47. Hello Mr.Davies!

What a fantastic final to Doctor Who Season 4, great job!

Looking foward to the Christmas Special and the four specials next year!

    Thanks,

    Dan

P.S. Hope one day the whole Doctor being Half-Human can be settled, never liked that concept from the T.V. Movie. He will always be a Full Time Lord to me! ;-)

  48. Dear Russell

Thank you for the most amazing climax to a Dr Who season ever. It made me laugh and cry all at the same time. You will definitley be missed. Will you still write the occasional episode, even though you are no longer head writer? I hope so.

    Steve

  49. Dear Mr. Davies

I would like to thank you for bringing us, the younger generation, a magnificent series souch as Doctor Who. I was not so fortunate to be able to watch the original series, for I am only 24 years old and not from the UK, however you have brought me an endless amount of joy and anticipation with every episode of the show and for that I thank you. It is an amaising thig you do, because each and every one of your episodes is incredible and the only thing that is missing is that there should be more of them.

If great work comes form great men, then you sir are trully one of the greatest men of television today.

I apologize for any mistakes in grammar for english is not my fist language.

    Best wishes

    Miha

  50. Dear Russell. Im sure theres allsorts of work going on and even..a new dr who actor has been chosen. I'd just like to put in my 10 cents as a dr who veiwer from the very beginning of it and suggest a English shakespearian actor called Michael Maloney. The guy has the aloofness and strangeness of the classic doctors ,somthing thats not been achieved in the last decade.

I know him just a bit and everytime i bump into him I think..hes the guy. Sort of troughton meets pertwee with a tiny bit of baker and hartnoll.

    have fun

    Richard.

  51. Wow!

    Awesome ending tonight!!!

Must admit, I thought Catherine Tate was going to be a mistake! In fact she was awesome as Donna! She was excellent as the temporary time lord! She capturered the eccentricity of mr tennants interpretation of the doctor!

One more point! The Girl in The Fireplace!!! Wow! My favourite episode ever!!!

By the way....The best fans grew up with Tom Baker!!!

Good luck with all you do in the future!

Thank you for your reply to this message last year!! Temporal mechanics rule the universe!!!

    regards!!

  52. Thanks so much for season 4, and proving that you are just a big ole' softy romantic at heart!! The real Doctor may not have a companion, but at least we no longer have Rose languishing away in a parallel world without her doctor. Hope we will see your name on other episodes in the future. Best of luck in your next venture.

  53. Doctor Who was fantastic. Thank you for sharing it. Please pop back to it from time to time!! I am sure you will be missed.

Just read some other info about you and your writing. It is very inspiring stuff. AND you wrote Jeykll...that was fantastic too!!!

    good luck

    Lindsay

  54. Thank you, Russell, for a magnificent, heartbreaking / happy finale in Journey's End.

Thank you for four fantastic seasons of Doctor Who. I'm very sorry that you're leaving this show, but I look forward to enjoying your future projects.

  55. I just wanted to say thank you ever so much for bringing Doctor Who back to our screens.

It has ment so much to me, I remember being a boy watching it and being scared but unable to stop watching, and now 30 years old I am still unable to stop watching (not scared this time) I can only give you may thanks for making this one of the best TV shows on air today.

I would just like to say 'Silence in the Library' was one that took me back to the old Doctor Who when they had no money to special effects so made people use their imagination, and with the line "stay out of the shadows" really did make me feel 7 years old again.

    Thank you

  56. OH MY GOD!!!! : )

    'JOURNEY'S END' WAS ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT!

IT WAS THE BEST EPISODE EVER!!!!!

I NEVER SAW IT COMING WITH THEDOCOTORDONNA

    BRILLIANT! LOVED IT!

    YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    : )

  57. Russell, just to say thank you very much for everything you have done for Doctor Who. I was just overwhelmed by the finale of season 4 and I know that all other fans will be too. I am the same age as you and have been a Whovian since Patrick Troughton Days. I could not have wished for anything more in the finale. I am so glad that David is continuing; everybody loves him. You have made a lot of people very happy.

Good luck with your future work and thanks once again.

  58. I tried writing to you in August 2006 - not sure my letter ever reached you. I absolutely love watching Dr Who with my two boys and in particular I greatly admire your writing.

The first time we saw Bad Wolf Beach, when Rose was in a parallel universe from the Doctor, really pulled at my heart. We were going through a tough time at home. My husband died in August 2006.

To watch the closing episode tonight, 5th July, almost two years after being widowed was very significant to me. Your writing has such resonance.

I'm off to Warwick in October to do an MA in writing. I've been very much influenced by your work and the emotional impact. I'm not sure I could do all the scientific stuff but I'm grateful to you for breathing such life into Dr Who. Fingers crossed my writing will have a smidgen of that spirit.

Thank you so much and congratulations on such an amazing story - touching the lives and hearts of many families sat in front of their tv on a Saturday evening! Many thanks and best wishes x

  59. Great series absolutely fabulous the doctor rules supreme, but.........

    got some questions.

where does the doctors regenerating powers come from.

where does the parts of the time vortex go.

If the doctor is the last of the time lords where is the first of the time lords.

the doctor can only regenerate 13 times, but this only applies to the last of the timelords.

the doctors regenerating powers come from his home world, where the first of time lords reside hidden in a place no time lord can see. The first time lord is of course female, she ages as more time lords exist, as each dies she gets a little younger until there is only one time lord left. The last of the time lords must return to her to enable the home world to regenerate and complete the cycle of time lords. Up till now this has never happened this is the one thing that the doctor does not know. if the doctor dies the first time lord will always be young and the time lords will no longer exist.

Each time lord has a little piece of the time vortex with in them, as each is born they carry it with them always, the tardis itself is a collection of dead time lords whose vortex has been suspended for the doctors use, this is why there is a physic link with the doctor.

The first of the time lords knows her children are dying as each returns to her she feels their pain and sees their memories and adds their knowledge to her own to use it for the children who she will have. This is how a time lord knows soo much about everything, they have the knowledge of all those time lords before them.

I think this would make a great story for a seasons finale of doctor who.

    regards

    BMATTHIAS

  60. Having watched tonight's show in floods of tears, and still being full of so many questions since the 'Hartnell' days, one wonders, 'who' the hell are you?

  61. Thank you for Journey's End, it was beyond anything that I was prepared for.

I'm still sobbing and it has been 10 minutes. Thank you so much!

    Tom x

    PS: More Steven Moffat!

  62. You sir, are amazing russell, I can now die knowing my lfe is complete, after seeing such amazingness as the season final of dr who ....

  63. I cannot believe the impact that Doctor Who has had on my family’s lives. Born in 1961, I saw them all, & my favourite was Tom Baker, then John Pertwee, Patrick Troughton & Peter Davison. My interest sort of wavered towards the other doctors, & especially to the screams of a certain female companion.

But when you resurrected Doctor Who, Christopher Eccleston just blew me away, I’d seen him in a few shows & with his sheer talent he just brought it back to life with his character attributes. But when he died I thought you’d never get anybody to replace him. But then David Tennant came alone, & hearing one line from Casanova, I thought not this guy. But I was a complete p***t. I could not believe the shear talent of David, & seeing him since on the box, his sheer charisma is absolutely amazing. Watching shows that say You’ve made it your own, used to drive me made, & I never ever wanted to repeat it, but David Tennant made it his own. I was hoping he wouldn’t have to die, but I always thought that the hand he lost to the Sycorax, would retain some energy, & would be like a rechargeable battery to bring him back.

If we ever ran out of Doctors, there’s always Captain Jack or Jenny to fly the Tardis, or the hope that the energy from the Tardis gave the Doctor extra lives. When you used Anthony Stewart Head with the Krillitines, I thought he would have made a good Doctor.

But I do look forward to tonight’s episode to find out. “Credit to your cast & crew, producers etc, in front of & behind the cameras, for bringing it all together. The companions & their family’s too. Everything about the show is perfect. Now a personal thanks to everybody, that I hope you pass on. I have a large family, some have special needs, & with everybody being different, Doctor Who is the only show on the Television, Satellite etcetera that every member of our family will all sit down & watch together. Thank You & God Bless all your team.” Ps forgive the bad grammer.

  64. Thank You Russell for giving my Children a doctor of there own, As a doctor who fan of many years I must tell you of a comment my child made last Saturday.

Child: Mummy I dont wont Dr David Tennant to Regenerate.

Me: Don't worry!! I am sure the next Dr will be FANTASTIC!!

Child: Will it be Patrick Troughten??

I don't think so do you?

Lots of Love and luck for the future.

  65. Like so many others who have left messages, I am a Dr Who fan who has moved from behind the sofa as a child, to the edge of my seat as an adult. My 7 year old son loves Dr Who and we as a family never miss an episode. The writing is superb and I admire you and the team in creating such entertaining, emotional and exciting TV. Thank you for creating something we can enjoy together & that fires the imagination of children to go on and create their own aventures in the playground.

  66. Thanks for putting a little hanky-panky in the TARDIS for once... most of us have been waiting for a little hint of it anyway. Just a little. It really has been a tasteful and fun and well appreciated. So thank you. And the music choices are brilliant such as the one I hear now on your site from the Master episodes. Lots of fun and good things for the future. And some of us love Donna because she is totally a real woman from Earth. Not a Swanny Swooner Screamer. But a truly smart funny witty woman with fantastic hair. I always wanted red hair... But I digress. Thanks from a forty something Stateside female!!

    Colleen and family

  67. Dr Who just gets better and better. Full of fun , fear and tugging on the emotions, fantastically believable brilliantly interwoven storylines, great acting, directing, seemless camerawork , sound and editing. What a great job. I have long since stopped trying to recognise Cardiff streets as I did in the very first episode.

Well done to all, from the production team to the teamakers. I love it. Dr Who is unmissable..and I love all the spin offs too...you are so clever.

    Sandy (Cardiff)

  68. Hi, Just wanted to say Thanks for bringing Doctor Who Back to Life. I used to watch The likes of Tom Baker Fighting the Daleks and now i get that same feeling i did when i was watching it as a child and im sure my son feels the same as he hides behind his cushion while watching.

I think a Great Idea would be to Re-vamp the old series starting from the begining...

"Dr Who Begins" using the original scripts with new actors better scenery and special effects. Ian Mcellen would be ideal as the first Doctor. it would be musch like the series "life on Mars" as it would have each doctor based in the 1960's 70's 80's with the same clothes, cars and music for each era. New fans and old fans would love this im sure.

    Darren

  69. Brilliant ... never heard so much speculation surrounding the last episode. It is being discussed in the pub, in the workplace, at school etc. So many theories cant wait till saturday (andi'm 51 years old!)

sorry you are leaving .. please write more episode though. This series has been excellent well done

  70. Why do you only do 13 Episodes a year . It is not quite enough. The old format had alot more material. How about 26 episodes a year. The series is really good and one cannot get enough of it.

  71. questions:

why do we still hear the noise of the nasty time trickster beatle on Donna in episode 12? and if Davros gets rid of Reality then he commits ultimate suicide .... ooooo ? and is Donna the "hub" of all parallel universes a bit like a strange goddess?

Overall what you write is brilliant and I certainly enjoy it :-) so thank you

    Cheers

    Joce

  72. Many thanks for the last four years dedication in bringing back my alll time show back to the fore. Those painful mocked years in the 70's,80's and 90's have been rewarded full scale by you and your team. I love QAF also and noticed the US version ran longerthan ours did. Please show them the superior show and do a QAFIII. Just four more specials with the old doc now, what will you do with all that spare time lol.

  73. Hi

I can't believe you're leaving Doctor Who. I know Steven Moffat is great, but you're legendary. You brought back Doctor Who, but not just brought it back you breathed new life, while being true to the old Doctor Who. Every story done seems better than the last. the way all the stories are linked throughout the new and old Doctor Who series are amazing and for all the Doctor Who fans out there may I just say "Thank you. You are amazing. Noone will ever be missed more." Thank you.

  74. Dear Russell,

Tom Baker was Doctor Who for me as a child. Now I have children of my own who are loving their 'new' discovery of the Doctor and I am revelling in it too.

Thankyou for the amazing job you have done, and good luck in all your future work.

  75. Hi

First of all thank you for bringing something from my childhood in to my sons childhood. He adores Dr Who in fact all the family, It is better now than years ago you have done a fantastic job. It is going to be a great loss to Sat nights. It is so sad that you will not be doing anymore. Anyway good luck and thnk you again

    Mark and family

  76. I have to say, sheer genius with the cliffhanger, it's not often that someone can pull off such a tactical feat to incense a huge portion of the population of the world in such a way as this one episode has done, congratulations.

I have been following the forums and blogs over the past couple of days and the absolute intensity of the response shows just how much the return of Doctor Who to our screens has been received. I grew up watching the show and haven't missed an episode since it's return and would like to add my sincere thanks to you for leading the return of what is undoubtedly a British icon of stellar proportions.

No matter what the outcome next week, I will continue to watch this wonderful show, secure in the thought that although change is sometimes a painful thing, it is through change that we grow and become stronger.

Thank you for all your efforts over the past few years, I wish you success and happiness for your future and look forward to seeing your work again.

    Regards

    Sean

  77. Fantastic work. I have an interesting idea for here in the states

  78. Thankyou so much for your brilliant work over the last 4 years, I am a Doctor Who fan from the old days of William Hartnell and watched and loved the show always. My family moved to Australia in the late 60's. Now my kids watch and we have mad phone calls to each other after every episode, living in Australia is incredibly frustrating as we have to wait for the new series:( I wish you the best of everything in the future. I also love the musical website:)

  79. Hi! I just wanted to say thanks to you and your team for making Saturday night's special again with your vision of Doctor Who. There's been an awful lot of stuff and nonsense written about the show and you by fans and the press alike. This really bugs me because you've managed to give Dr Who credibility as a TV show again and reintroduced a new army of young fans to the Doctor's travels. Even my little daughter who is 9 months old thinks the Daleks are hilarious and giggles whenever they are on the screen! I personally have loved every minute and even the duff episodes haven't been as bad as that giant Bertie Bassett or unlimited rice pudding quote from the old days. Also, Torchwood rocks...in some areas I thought it was better than Dr Who, especially with character development and the resolution of the second series. Wonderful stuff.

But thanks again for all your hard work and you have my utter respect as a writer. You are up there with Dennis Potter, god rest his soul, and I look forward to see what you come up with next.

Of course, I did have an idea for a Dr Who script myself that involves the Doctor and his companion being trapped inside a giant space whale. It's a cross between the fable of Jonah and Moby Dick - because they discover an old whaling ship inside the belly of the beast, complete with crew and a mad captain. Get Moffatt to drop me a line if he wants me to throw the idea his way! ;-) (Of course, I jest.)

Anyway, take care and stay creative.

    Darren

  80. Dont take away Tenet, only reason to watch Who in 2010...If your not writing and Tenets gone too...no more who! Also miss torchwood....even liked Sarah Janes Adv....Thought it funny about the "space ship" in Cardiff last week...

  81. Hey Russell,

Just a note to say that you have made a great job of Dr. Who for the past four years (though I was furious when Chris Eccelston was only around for a season - he was the best- yet your explanation is thoughtful and credible so I forgive you!!!!)

Meanwhile the BEEB must be mad to loose you-no matter how talented the next guy is. It is not easy to build a weekly family evening which with Dr Who you have done so well. To bridge the child / parent divide is amazing so congratulations. Setting up a system requires a different skill to maintaining it. I hope you go on to deveop other projects in a similar genre. Thanks for the Dr Who of the 21st century from a fan of the original who watched William Hartnell from behind the couch!

I like the musical website too by the way

  82. From one Swansea born lad to another...

I loved the way you sneaked a map of Swansea into Saturday's 'Doctor Who' (28/6/08) in place of Cardiff!

I'm very sorry you won't be producing the programme any more. You have provided my children & I with many hours of fun over the last few years.

    Best wishes

    John

  83. If anyone was considering remaking The Prisoner, I believe there is only one writer with enough integrity to tackle the task....

  84. Only one more episode to go before we get good writers!

  85. What's wrong with you?

    A new doctor????????

  86. Greetings from Japan Mr. Davies,

Thank you for your amazing work bringing back the good Doctor - my wife (who is Japanese) and I love the new series and we get a kick out of watching it on NHK in Japanese and then in English on my DVDs. We only have one request - that you at least write an episode or 2 on the 2010 series featuring Paul McGann as The Doctor - that would be epic!

    Cheers!

    Henry

  87. ...you do realize people all over the world want to both hug you and kill you after watching the latest Dr. Who episode, yes? You'd better hide somewhere safe.

  88. Russell you are a true legend.

You make the best doc who episodes and torchwood too.

Theres only one thing you need to do in your life now.

You write all the episodes to a whole doctor who series.

The only think i fear now is that you may run out of ideas after davros returning. rose back from parallel universe. its great to have it all at once. but can it be topped. if it wasnt you writing the finales of doc who id say no. but with you writhing them. i have to say yes.

have you ever thought of making your own tv series. your ideas etc. i think it would have enough mystery to top lost.

anyways thank you soooo much for doctor who. and torchwood. keep up the perfect work. =]

    Cheers from Richard

  89. Been a fan of Dr Who since the 70's. David Tennant is the best by miles - Dr Who will seriously never be the same when he leaves.

Please, please bring back the Sea Devils - they were fantastic.

Talons of Wen Chiang was fab too and the mummies with Tom Baker and Sutek.

  90. This is the second time i have typed this message as i bloody deleted it by mistake while watching Boyzone live. Anyhow the stolen earth was fantastic now if the doctor really does regenerate i hope that jimmy nesbitt is not the new doctor, not that he would not be great, but i always thought i would be the first and possibly only Doctor with an Ulster accent. myabe i could be the second if he is!!! anyway i have been meaning to send a message for a long time and thank you for bringing the doctor back and so successfully too. please continue to write doctor stories even though you are stepping down as (cue a Davros impression) the supreme leader of the new doctor empire.

even 38 year olds can dream of becoming the next doctor, can we not!!

All the best for your future projects and thank you for keeping me on the edge of my seat. boyzone have now finished so hopefully i can post this message right.

Roy Burns (a future regenerated Doctor)

  91. I don't think they should get rid of David Tennant! I think something should go wrong with the Daleks and he slowly regenerates back into David Tennant, so that way Sarah Jane dosn't have to die!

  92. Russel T Davies is Great He should still write Torchwood Episodes.

    Your Brilliant!

  93. hey

i missed the 1st series of the new doctor who because I was going through a 'girly' stage when all i watched was soaps ------ so I am REALLY confused about bad wolf (FYI i grew out of my girly stage in time 2 join David Tennant and become resonably obsessed) --- could some1 plz explain Bad Wolf to me (preferably before 2moro!!!)

    Thanks

    Jo

  94. Hi Russell.

Congratulations for the OBE, your family must be so proud of you. I hope you like my ideas for DOCTOR WHO. My friend Rob Kell thinks my idea for the DW episode about the Doctor stopping a madman from using a boy with Asperger Syndrome from cracking a alien code which will unleash a doomsday weapon that is hidden beneath the Earth's surface is a really good idea. I would love to see it happen in the Fifth Series in 2010.

I think another old Dr. Who character should return. Romana. We don't really know if she still lives or if she died along with the rest of the time lords in the Time War. I think Romana should be played by Chloe Annett.

    Daniel Williamson

  95. What exactly do you have against Leeds, Russell?

Saturday's episode of Doctor Who was a most unwelcome portrayal of the city given the insensitive treatment of Beeston by the international media during the aftermath of 7/7. If Donna had to be relocated somewhere in Britain, why couldn't she take up in your adopted home of Manchester? You could have kept in Donna's stereotypical gibe and the Lancastrian accent sported by the woman in the street would have been accurate. If Donna's reaction was an intentional dig at Leeds on your part, you're not as nice a guy as i once believed.

  96. So people are led away to "the camps" so that "England for the English" is maintained.

I suppose "the camps" came after the English finished burning all the Welsh holiday homes and stopped bombing the Irish.

You self-styled Celts are so blinded by the giant redwood of your anti-English bigotry stuck firmly in your eyes that you fail to see your own ingrained prejudices.

That Dr Who is broadcast on the BBC is no surprise. The first question on an application form for a job at the BBC is "Do you hate the English?" Answer "no" and your application is binned. Of course the obligatory version printed in Welsh doesn't have the question because it is a given the Welsh will answer "yes".

Even the notorious nationalist party for the British campaigns in Wales on keeping the English out.

  97. Why did Welshman Russell T Davies tonight (21.6.08) portray the English as racists, likening us to the Nazi's?

An Italian (?) man is being taken to a labour camp and says "you know how it is, England for the English".

Usually we hear "Britain" and "British" in every programme even calling the English channel the British channel in one episode! So why say England/English and not Britain/British this

A lot of English servicemen (as well as other servicemen) died in defeating Nazi Germany and liberating the concentration camps.

Russell T Davies should be ashamed of himself. He should issue an apology!

  98. Will Mr Moffat be able to even get close to your Dr Who episodes? When you brought Dr Who back I was very nervous. Would you do it justice? But OH MY GOD you have reached unimaginable heights I am even more addicted now than when I first found Dr Who on the TV when I was 8 years old and just got home from a dance lesson and was absolutely entranced by Castravalva. From that moment on I was totally and utterly addicted! Thank you Mr Davies from the bottom of my heart.

  99. Russell,

Many congrats on the OBE and I'm very sorry to hear you're leaving Dr Who. The four series have been terrific, and really have made the series what it once was, iconic sci-fi. I don't think myself there's been a bad storyline among them and I also think Catherine Tate has been great - different, but why would anyone want all the companions to be all the same? She's a great actress as well as comedienne. And for the record, Agatha Christie did indeed go missing towards the end of her first marriage exactly as the storyline in that episode relates. Though whether she ever got to cross swords with a woman whose son was a wasp we can only guess!

  100. I'm 15, and I think Doctor Who series 4 has been fantastic. I didn't think Catherine Tate would d a good job of it (just because I still picture her in her comedy sketches) but she has seriously shown she can act, and she can do it well. David Tennant is fanastic, obviously, and the storylines have just been brilliant. Good job :)
