RTD's Messageboard

  1. For goodness sakes, keep Fox's little paws off your Torchwood saga!!! They ruin everything! If you don't have John Barrowman as Captain Jack, I, for one, will not watch it! Fox will muss up everything, have them all straight and boring.

By the way, Torchwood and Dr. Who helped me greatly during the time I was recovering from a stroke. Made me cheerful again. THANK YOU for that!!! Cheers!

  2. Hi Russell,

Have just finished reading The Final Chapter. WOW! Brilliant stuff,i feel quite sad that it,s finished, not only your wonderful book but of course your DR. Who tenure.Lets face it, it will never be the same again( obviously ). You created truly believable charactors and then filled them with exquisite actors, you do say in your books, in so many words, that the charactors come first and then the parts are cast, but it honestly feels as though every part is written with the actor in mind from the beginning.

I hope you,re keeping cool and having a ball in LA and i hope life is a little less stressful for you.

Once again many thanks and hope your pen ( or dodgy no delete laptop ) never runs dry.

    Kate x x x

  3. Russell, I know that you have left Doctor Who, and the show will not be the same without you. I have read that there are several other projects that are in your head. I would like to add one more, if you decide that you miss Doctor Who to much. Please consider making a full length movie of Doctor Who. What I would like to see and many more fans than me, is the war between the Time Lords and the Daleks that forced Doctor Who into the choice that he made. I would want noone else in this world to write it but you, because you are the best and because I respect you and admire your talent. Also, please consider, Callum Blue as the Doctor, you may have considered him in the past to play the Doctor, I do not know. But I think he is right for a tough Doctor.

Thanks and what ever you do I will always be watching,

    Ron

  4. Hello Russell

Stuck in bed ill, watching early Torchwood episodes with the strange clarity that fever brings. So what I want/need to know is, whose feet are those sticking out of the dustbin as Gwen and Jack run down the ally by the nightclub in 'Day One', around 13 minutes into the episode? They're very shapely feet, surely no mere showroom dummy - please compliment their owners for me...

  5. your cool

  6. Hi Russell,

Would there be any chance of a TS character turning up in Torchwood, as it's about the only area you've not done. Plus got to say I love the show, and hope it's coming back soon.

    Thanks

  7. please please bring torchwood back to brittan do 1 new america but keep this one here in wales please and is there going to be torchwood 4 pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaasssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee tell us what is happening going out my mind not knowing thank u

  8. I just finished watching The End of Time here in the US. (Good old iTunes)

I just want you to know, that I am 62 years old, and at the end of the episode my eyes leaked!

Great work. Brilliant. You deserve all the priase you receive. Now go do some more.

  9. Dear Russell T Davies,

Thank you for making my TV experience so much more enjoyable!

I will not lie, you have changed my life. I believe you are a wonderful, incredible writer, and when I see your credit in the opening I know all is well in the world ,and that I can sit back and enjoy a great episode of Doctor Who/Torchwood. I applaud every time I see your name; please accept my applause and my highest praise.

    Because you freakin' deserve it.

    Signed a great fan:

    Sarah

  10. Mr. Davies,

I have truely enjoyed your stories for the Doctor Who series, although I am a bit torn up by Army of Ghosts and Doomsday. I have NEVER been affected so much by a television broadcast airing as I was by those two episodes (yes, they were sadder than the news). Well, not since The Bionic Woman episode where she died but that was back in the 70's when I was a child. If not but for the pleasing of my heart finish a story where the Doctor and Rose are reunited in that parallel world, pleeease! And let them stay together. I have followed Doctor Who for ages and enjoyed the plots and have understood the roguish vagabond, but not until Rose came along have I ever wanted him to remain with a companion as much. I think it was a mixture of David Tennant's and Billie Piper's amazing acting and your stories. So thank you for your talents and for breaking my heart along with theirs.

    Sincerely,

    T.S. Hurt

    U.S.A.

  11. Mr Davies - one of my earliest memories was laying beside my mother and telling her stories of the further adventures of K9, I was roughly two years old at that time. Season 18 was ludicrously above my head at that age as I'm sure you'll realise, as it was to pretty much the entire viewing public (damn that science geek CHB). I grew up with the man with the; 'open pleasant face' doctor, the 'horrifically-dressed-one-but-kind-of-okay-in-some-stories' one and the 'started -like-a-clown-but-ended-up-with-dark-potential' one. Then on CBBC came the dramatic shift in Why Don't You (Ben and the mad mad sheep), then came Dark Season (fantastic) and later Queer as Folk, Bob and Rose, The Second Coming, Casanova. And hen to add to my VHS and developing DVD collection, a spanking new series of Doctor Who. It was only with the revival of this, my favourite series ever that I realised you have been part of my formative televisual years. So, thank you. So so much.

  12. Dear sir i would like to say A BIG thank you for writing a book that has had me laughing so much my husband and daugther have looked at me as if i have gone mad.I think you are an angel you will be missed from doctor who. I wish you all the best for the future and hope you're success never leave you.And a big thank you writing that jack and ianto played naked hide and seek and gwen walking in on them that was funny.

  13. Dear Mr Russel T Davies.

Thank you so much for bringing Doctor Who back. (I have always voted for Doctor Who for best Drama for the NTA).

Thank you so much for everything. You are my hero; you have made me cry you have made me laugh. You are an absoulte genious.

I have ordered the Doctor Who The Writer's Tale: Final Chapter and I can't wait to read it! I hope you will do another book signing (near Cheshire) so it can give me a chance to meet my wonderful hero.

You and David and Julie are always going to be me Doctor Who team forever.

I shall keep on watching Doctor Who forever.

    Again thank you very much.

Love From your biggest fan Emily.

  14. Why can't Torchwood be kept alive in the US as well as the UK. Then the shows can interact with each other. We all get to watch both online anyway. Have Capt. Jack help build the US Torchwood, bring him back to Cardiff to rebuild that HQ; then the shows can go one in both places. Every now and then the two locations have to work together for a story plot.

    Love your work. Thanks!

  15. Thanks for the worst five years of Doctor Who in the show's history. Yes, that includes "Delta and the Bannermen". Your banal, mawkishly pseudo-emotional mush, one-dimensional, patronising characters, smug, self-referential, dialogue, idiotic conceits, to say nothing of your nonsensical plots and the total extraction from the show of any charm, wit, or intelligence is a staggering achievement.

You claim your plots are just using a different structure. No, Russell, they're not. They're just shit. The only arguably decent think about your run, the backstory, you nicked from Lawrence Miles, as, in fact, you did most of your most "memorable" conceits. Which you still wasted.

There aren't enough words to describe the depths of your lousiness as a Doctor Who writer.

Thanks for wrecking the dream, Russell. Thanks a bunch.

  16. I'm reading and very much enjoying "Writer's tale - The final chapter" at the moment. Pure delight! Thankfully they do have e-mail in L.A. but it's a pity that we won't be able to read over your shoulder again. Best of luck for all your future projects! And thank you very much for those wonderful TV shows and especially this book.

  17. Hi Russell,

when me and my brother Mark Button moved back to Swansea, we started school at Sketty Primary. My brother remembers being the new boy in the class and sitting next to a boy who drew the most amazing Dr Who and the Daleks cartoon strips. That boy was you!!

When I went to Olchfa, 2 years after you started ther, I remember you winning all the Eisteddfod Prizes ( actually, I seem to remember that Sharon Maxwell won the girls prizes. )you both sat on bardic chairs on a stage in a very draughty sports hall!!

When you were a prefect during a wet play, you and your friends tried to see how many of us little kids you could fit into one room on the bottom corridor of the main block. Was this a tardis moment for you. Me and my friends slid open the dodgy metal window and escaped, just like Rose Tyler may have done!!

You were always a very big character in school who seemed to be having lots of fun with his mates, especially in the VIII form block!!

As my son Sam is due to do his GCSE's this year and is being recruited to the Olchfa Sixth form as we speak, all these funny memories of my days there are coming back to me.

My brother Mark has a very funny anecdote that he tells his friends of the time you were in Midsummer Night's dream in The New Gym!!! ( won't post it here though!!)xx

  18. Hi Russell, just finished reading "The Writer's Tale- The Final Chapter" and it's absolutely un-put-downable! It's just like sitting in a room listening to you and Ben talking! It's the most brilliant format for a book I've ever seen. Good luck in the U.S. Please don't get sucked into the american writing machine which seems to ave a very americo-centric (if there is such a word) perspective and doesn't seem to believe the rest of the world exists when it comes to drama.

  19. Dear Mr Russel

Thanks for all the great shows you have written!

Especially Torchwood and Who ( me being a SFI nerd) and Queer as folk ( me liking both men an women) .

I have been watching the L word and it is so american, superficial and actually boring. More intelligent, funny GOOD shows for women is needed.

So, would you please write something for us gay women, please, please, please. Something, smart, funny, sexy and serious as you always do. (and Eve Myles would be a lovely cast :))

thanks again for all the great shows!

    Love Anna

  20. Hi Russell

Wondered if you'd be interested in doing an interview with us? RedHanded is the magazine for men in Wales - kind of GQ or FHM with added local savvy. We've been going 6 years and featured all the usual suspects - Rob Brydon, Duffy, Charlotte Church, Joe Cazaghe, Ryan Giggs, Stereos. Manics etc.

I was thinking of getting our regular columnist - the very excellent Bennett Arron - comedian, script writer and all round nice person to have a chat with you. We run a semi-regular thing called 'When Bennett met..." He has already 'done' Rhod Gilbert and Rob Brydon...

What do you think? You can talk about anything you want really... Would need to do it before end of Feb I reckon.

    Do hope you are interested

    Jeremy Head

    Editor

  21. Thanks Russell...We had the best of times :)

  22. Heard yesterday about the American Torchwood not casting John Barrowman!!!!!!!! How can you have a Torchwood without the marvellous Barrowman. His charisma, backstory, humour, pain, and the fact that he is an alien himself and sheer acting brilliance, makes this far above any standard sci-fi serial TV companies could come up with.

I do hope it is just a silly rumour, or that Russell has an exceptionally brilliant idea - which I admit wouldn't be unusual. But I would love to see JB in the lead once more.

    Love, hugs and kisses,

    June

  23. Aaaghhh! I've just seen a tweet that said the American Torchwood WITHOUT John Barrowman!!!! Totally unthinkable! Torchwood is Barrowman. Otherwise it's just another basic American series you get bored with quickly. Blimey, I'm in shock. Anyway, good luck Russell, if this is the case, I hope your writing still stimulates a great actor to be cast - BUT NO BARROWMAN???????

  24. Dear Russell,

    I am from Northern Ireland

My friend and I have written a dr who story and I was wondering if you would have a look at it for us and consider publishing it.

We are very big fans of Doctor Who and the spin-offs and your other creations.

If you consider reading it send me your email address and I shall email you the story.

    Yours sincerly

    Darren Larmour

  25. Hi Russell. Thanks for all of the wonderful Doctor Who and Torchwood adventures !! PLEASE can you let us know if there is anything in the (fairly strong?) rumours now flying around regarding Torchwood moving to the USA. Fans getting a bit confused since JB mentioned that a 13part series was going into production in 2010. Have we seen the last of Torchwood GB?? I hope not. Nos da x

  26. Hey Russell,

Can't remember if I've already posted this message but if I haven't, I should have. Here goes.

    Thanks.

Thanks for bringing the Doctor back, Thanks for Torchwood and The Sarah Jane Adventures. Thanks for Casanova and Bob and Rose and Queer as Folk.

    I didn't want you to go. :(

Have a great time in the States and write me something fantastic!!

  27. A question - what's the US release date for "Doctor Who: The Writer’s Tale — The Final Chapter"? Amazon US isn't listing a date, need my DW fix! I am bereft at the end of your and David Tennant's era, but grateful that you were able to bring this show back to life and better than ever (this coming from an American fan from the Peter Davison era). Also looking forward to the rumored Torchwood US on FOX. Will be there with bells on and tell all my friends to watch.

  28. How would we go about getting Richard Dawkins in an episode of Dr Who? he would be perfect, southpark, family guy and the simpsons have all had impersonations of Dawkins, I'm sure Dr Who could get the real thing!

  29. Russell (I hope you don't mind if I call you Russell?), is there any chance you could be convinced to convince the BBC to let you spearhead the adventures of the Eighth Doctor as played by Paul McGann? I don't see any reason why two Doctor Who series could not be aired at the same time...

  30. Wonderful news! An American/Global Torchwood! Terrific! With Julie and Janet too! Oh, I do hope Fox provide the back up and allow the required artistic freedom to create yet another masterpiece! It's the first thing that's cheered me up since The Doctor's regeneration! - well except for Doctor Who winning an NTA (and David too). Good Luck and lots of hugs and kisses. - June

  31. So are we really going to get Torchwood America. I think it's great but do we get Torchwood GB as well. JB said there was a 13 part series so is this GB or USA. Not sure about Fox but we'll see. Any Torchwood is better than none at all in my view and I'm so missing Jack.

Loved EoT by the way and Jack and Alonso. Reading the Writer's Tale now and enjoying it.

  32. HI RUSSELL,IS THERE GOING TO BE A 4TH SEASON OF TORCHWOOD I HOPE PLEASE PLEASE BRING IT BACK,LOVED LAST 2 PART DOCTOR WHO END OF TIME IT WAS BLOODY BRILLIANT,I WILL MISS YOU DOING DOCTOR WHO.YOURS BIG FAN OF YOURS DR WHO AND TORCHWOOD,SJA AS WELL.SIMON MCKEOWN PLEASE PRINT

  33. I was just wishing to ‘Thank you’ for ‘The Grand’ I nearly fell off the chair when I found out you wrote Doctor Who!? And also queer as folk. You are a very gifted writer, but I guess you already know that  Sorry to have lost the Doctor this year. I can see why David Tennant ‘pulled out’ when you put down your pen etc. As you are [Technically] The Doctor himself. I burst into tears when David said he didn’t want to die etc. And so did the rest of the U.K. I’ve voted for Doctor Who on the TV quick awards. Well done you! Good luck in Hollywood :@) your futures bright and just think of all those new actors you can mould and grow and turn into superstars! [Like those blinding stars that The Doctor seen within the ‘Best’ Four years of his life [With the face of David Tennant] xx

  34. The grand – wow what a series! Tim Healey was great! And was the centre point of the whole programme. What Mr Collin’s didn’t know about [gossip] within the hotel was not worth knowing about! The costumes are out of this world [and so give the viewer a real insight into life during those times] the story line was ‘punchy, stimulating, honest and believable’. I stumbled upon it and began to save each episode. Watching with glee I looked forward to coming in from work and watching the next hour long instalment. I even stopped watching East Enders in favour for The Grand, as I work nights and I couldn’t stay up to watch them both. Anyhow, just as it arrived it disappeared? When is it coming back? And why can’t I vote for it on the TV quick awards?? I even voted online to choose The Grand and not Eastenders! Eastenders is pure rubbish once you become embroiled within the lives of The Grand employees and visitors alike.

  35. RE: THE END OF TIME

David's final performance was excellent; but the final story itself left alot to be desired.

The "Time War" was a mess in plot lines. Almost all timelords are now evil?

And left the void only long enough to be sent back??? That is insane and silly.

It would have made more sense to have had just a faction of evil timelords, and confirm others had escaped. This would leave open other plotlines in the future.

Also.. what useless companion locks himself in to a chamber and makes The Doctor kill himself? The Doctor should have said "Sorry must dash" and left.

Whats up with only a cameo from Sarah Jane?

Finally... using the tardis to help a guy pick up a guy at bar?

Thats moronic !! I rate this a D + episode only due to the great acting.

    Horrible waste of production costs.

  36. Just a thought, but how about doing a Torchwood series or one off set when Jack first joined them? I mean you've got some of the story there already in the bits we see from his past in the series, I think it would be an interesting way to get a bit more of an insight into how the organisation originally worked and also into Jack's character.

  37. Thankyou for bringing back doctor who, I consider it to be the best show made by the bbc. Russel, Julie and Phil have all done a fantastic job on resurrecting the show. And just because David Tennant has left and matt smith has replaced him it does not mean he will be a terrible actor or version of the doctor, remember they all said that when they signed up David tennant after ecclestons departure.

Anyway, i wish you the best of luck for future writing Russel, just be the best you can be, I dont think that will be hard since your a fantastic writer, none of your scripts are terrible, and anybody who says its is well they do not know a good script even if it was under their very noses. Good luck Russel :) Keep writing and giving us quality programmes and writing.

  38. I have to say that the christmas and new year special of Dr Who were fab. I was moved to tears by David Tennant and it is not the first time he has done this over the 4 years he has been Dr Who. But for all the years I have watched it nothing have ever scared me more that the episode of the Sarah Jane Adventures when the Mona Lisa came to life. As a child I was terrified of this painting and my Nanna actually got rid of it becuase she knew how much it scared me. Talk about your worst childhood fears coming to life. I cannot believe I am 38 years old and was scared witless by a kiddies programme which my 9 year old son loved to watch. But then again it is just testament to the brillian writing of Russell T.

  39. hey russell or the guys who check the message board i wanted to say i saw russel in waterstones in manchester yesterday!!!

  40. I agree with Ami, David Tennant was the whole reason I started watching Doctor Who. But, unfortunatly, it was his time to go. Besides, a true fan would watch it, even though their reason for it left.

Like in Death Note, when L died, I almost quit watching it, but I thought it would get better so I finished the series, and it did get better. . . Up until Mello died at least.

Matt Smith could also be good for the show, I did tear up what David left, and I still have that rythym of four stuck in my head, but change is good. David was on the show for years, and it needed to be done; David can't be the Doctor forever, everyone dies eventually.

But, I only have one thing to say. And it may sound a little strange, givin the circumstances. But in my personal opinion, the Doctor needs a goth. Because every one needs to have at least one goth in their lives. Be it a best friend or a mortal enemy or maybe just some one you see walking down the street you're on, every one has one, but the Doctor never does. He's always running around with people like Rose and Martha, who care too much about what other people think.

I'm not saying I don't like Rose or Martha, but after experiencing Donna, they both get annoying very fast.

A goth would do the Doctor some good, and I'm not just saying this because I am one, I'm saying it because it's true. It doesn't have to be one of those very exaderated goths, just soeone in black who's very opinionated and doesn't care how people think about them, someone who strays away from anything this is concidered to be anything normal by their peers. Plus, goths are beautiful in the snow.

And why can't the doctor have a male companion? And why does it always have to be human? Why can't it be a human male, an alien female, or an alien male? I'm not asking for another Rose, I'm just saying that the Doctor could travel with someone who is male and he can just be someone who is a friend of the doctors and travels with him.

Because not every relationship is romantic.

  41. I can't add anything that hasn't already been said, except for one personal not. I'm 46 and not a particularly emotional sort of man. If you had told me five years ago that and episode of Doctor Who would actually move me to tears, I would have tought you were mad. Congratulations to you, the cast, the crew, and all involved. Good luck with your future projects, and I hope that you now get to enjoy the Doctor's adventures as a fan.

  42. Dear Russell: My husband and I have watch and loved Dr. Who for years. We raised our son (now 22) to be a dedicated DW fan who knowsall the details! WE have been so happy toq have the new DW. We just wached the End of Time and were "glued" to the set. We have been so excited by your writing and influence on DW. It is sad to hear that we have lost you as well as David Tennant. I hope this is not irrevocable in your case. I do know that we have to accept Matt as the new DW.

  43. why did you have to loose david tennant ?

He was the best Actor ever and now he's gone, i am a big fan and all but did you realy have to kill of David Tennant.

I watch Doctor Who every time its on and i end up battling my sister for the remote and i love the programe but when Matt Smith takes over you are going to loose hundreds of veiwers I no this because every one thourt david tennant was the best.

i do no the meaning of doctorwho , "every doctor has to regenarate" but cant you keep David Tennant in a little longer?

You have kept him in for about 3 years so why loose him now?

just please find the deasency to reply because you are a legend but i think every one wants david tennant back.

  44. 5 years of sheer emotion and fantastic story lines!. I have been a fan of the show since the William Hartnel days.

I wish you good luck in all of your future Projects.

    Thank you Russell.

    Regards.

    John.

  45. Hi

I have loved all the Doctor who episodes you have written. I was wondering if you could ask the next Writer of the doctor who episodes if the Doctor will ever meet his Daughter again I would like to know what happened to Jenny. thanks for all the Brilliant Episodes of the Doctor and I hope that you enjoyed it.

    Helen

  46. Russell T Davies is without doubt amazing...

The Tenth Doctor's exit was heart breaking but nessesary (partly because David Tennant was moving on! lol)

BUT IN NO WAY (character development, plot twist, dramatic need to show anyone can die!) will I ever be convinced killing off Ianto was the right thing to do - it was a HUGE mistake. Owen and Tosh were tragic, sad, emotional and made all those points...

Killing Ianto just took away the heart of the show, the person viewer could relate to, the person that made Jack even more lovable, one of the best actors AND the actor with the best on screen chemistry with John Barrowman!!

Ianto's character grew out of nothing in the first season and was loved by viewers. It was an insane choice to write such an amazing, funny, comlex and real character and then kill them off, and it was even crazier be lucky enough to find such a great actor with an ability to connect with the public then LOSE THEM. RTD should have been throwing money at him and begging him to stay! We are still not 'over it'!

BRING BACK IANTO JONES AND GARETH DAVID-LLOYD!!

  47. hello i am one of doctor whos and your biggest fan i love your writing i love the way you have connected everything to the end of time. when you write you love to put any idea you have in your head down and i can see that.

i am writing because there are loads of questions going around about the end of time episodes im going to write some questions and if u can answer them it would be lovley if you cant then i will understand.

Questions go around about the woman

    1. Who is the woman who says that she was once lost there is lots of disscusion about that.

    2. David tennant has left and loads of people are obviously upset about that do you think Matt Smith will have the equalitiy that David Tenant had.

    3. why was wilf so important that he had to herald the doctors death.

    4. And overall what where the 4 knocks.

Thank you so much i will miss You David And Julie all of the production team has worked very hard and send my regards to them

    thanks

from one of doctor whos biggest fans

p.s I have to say all the speacials where your best work as they had lots of mystery between them

    bye

  48. Mr Russel T. Davies, You can die a happy man knowing that you have entertained the Universe with your fantastically imaginative stories. Truly, an artist who can communicate internationally, reveals how talented you are. I am 10 yrs old now and hope to be 'The Doctor'. Not only THE Doctor but the youngest Doctor.... now would be good......Ryan

  49. Does anyone know what happens next to:

    River Song

    Jenny (the Dr.'s daughter)

    Susan Foreman

    to name a few characters . . .

  50. Hello

A Great many thanks for every single minute of your Doctor Who or Torchwood episodes that I have watched and loved. You are an inspiration :)

    Best of luck

    x

  51. Russell!

Just thought I'd congratulate you on all you've done with Doctor Who over the last 5 or so years. The final episode was written superbly and was a fitting end to your work on the show.

    Owain

  52. Watched last night both of the final episodes - what fantastic writing. When you know the Doctor won't survive, all the twists and turns were heart stopping. Can't see how anyone else but Bernard Cribbins could have played Wilf, and then when he knocked 4 times to get out of the door ....

Both my wife and I were in tears throughout most of the 2nd episode - just shows what good writing you did, and also the fantastic acting by David Tennant, Bernard Cribbins and John Sims. My only grouch is I was so sad that he renegerated by himself - i.e. no-one with him; it would been nice for him not to go out "alone" so to speak - and when he said "I don't want to go" - you wondered whether that was in the script, or David speaking!

Many thanks for giving us the joy and adventure of Dr Who the past few years, and I wait in anticipation for your next series of whatever you may do.

Can't see how Dr Who will be as successful without you at the helm - as having read The Writer's Tale that was published in 2008/09, you seemed to live and breathe Dr Who.

    Philip

  53. Dear Russell.

the whole of the end of time was fantastic!

    i actually cried three times!

you wrote it amazingly well, and will be missed when you leave doctor who!

in most ways you influenced what my childhood and what i talk to my friends about.

you invented characters that appear over my walls on posters and even a cardboard cut out! rose and the doctor beng my favourite.

i just hope that if i ever get into the writing business i can create things like that.

    kara. xx

  54. Dear Russell,

Thanks for giving us so much wonderful writing for Dr Who. I've watched the show since we first got a telly in 1963 and remember the very first episode. Wouldn't really call myself a Whovian though until you revived the show with the help of all the wonderful production team and the fabulous David Tennant.

Now I'm hooked again and whilst I cried buckets at David's demise, I'm looking forward to the new shows and hope that my grandchildren will enjoy the series as much as I have.

All the best for your future projects-I think your writing is brilliant and look forward to watching more by you in the future.

    Sue

  55. Hi Russell

I'm one of the few who has not seen the tenth Doctor's final two episodes. I live in Australia, and ABC1 who airs Doctor Who in Australia have not said when they intend to air them.

Now I know I could download them, but have decided not to. Instead I've pre-ordered the DW Specials DVD box Set, which I'm impatiently waiting to be released.

I know the episodes will be very emotional, and I'm certain it will be a perfet send off for the tenth Doctor.

Many thanks Russell for bringing Doctor Who back to our screens. I wish you continued success in whatever you do.

    Take care. :-)

    Regards

    Karen

  56. Hello Mr. Davies,

I am so overcome with emotion on so many levels. I am from the US and had never heard of Dr. Who until I saw the trailer for it on BBC America (thank goodness for cable!). I was intrigued and made a point to watch. From the beginning I was hooked. I missed the first season with Christopher as The Doctor so I had to buy the DVD to see what I had missed and how David had come to be the 10th Doctor. Christopher was also fantastic, but there was something about David's portrayal that made it extra special.

David's doctor had so much human emotion, which I guess was to be expected since Earth was his favorite place to be and since he was spending so much time with them how could he not take on those traits. Then again, I think those feelings were always with him. The many facial expressions David had throughout his run......from happy, sad, angry, authoritive, surprise, giddy, fear.....the list goes on, but none compare to the one on the last episode just before his regeneration. When I play it over and over in my mind, it still brings tears to my eyes. A simply brilliant and tearjerker moment.

Thanks to your superb writing and the exceptional talent of David, and let's not forget all the superb talent of actors and actresses and everyone else who worked behind the camera, have made Dr. Who a total work of art. I hope the show was everything you had hoped it would be. To us loyal fans it was.

Thanks for the ride around the universe!!

  57. RTD, you are a genius of the written form.

I have cried with tears of joy, anger, pain, confusion and finally understanding due to your script's.

After being totally blinkered to David Tenant and deliberately ignoring your scripts until "The Fires of Pompeii" I realised that I had truly cut off my nose to spite my face and then realised what you had been indeed planning for the doctor over the course of a number of YEARS!!

    Bravo Sir!

But, may I ask you a question please Sir?

Equally I love The Sarah Jane Adventures as Dr Who, BUT... as a devotee of Sci-Fi from years past (DOB 1965!!), I cannot help but notice the similarities between The Sarah Jane Adventures - a spin-off for Children which, certainly, this 42 year old Adult thought was TOP QUALITY TV both for Adults as much as it was for Children, and a shortlived TV series, broadcast in the early 70's on ITV (!) called "The Tomorrow People"??

Therein we had the Computer, Tim, (Mr Smith); the adult protector called John ( Sarah Jane); and various 'Companions' who appeared to move on after each Series of Episodes as per the first series of TSJA, Carol, Kenny, Steven, Elizabeth et al.....

This is NOT a criticism, rather a wish to understand your mind set for youth!

I've gotta feeling that TTP influenced you sonewhat....

  58. Dear Russell,

Thank you for the joy you gave through Dr Who, the memories you made and the hearts you touched. Sheer quality.

Wish you all the best in your next project.

  59. Dear Mr Davies:

I was sad enough last night watching the last of Doctor Who with David Tennant in control of the TARDIS. I am sadder today to hear that you have signed off as well.

I knew about Doctor Who over the years, but never felt compelled to watch, Then you took it over and gave us Christpher Eccleston. Well , that was marvelous , indeed, but David Tennant was a stroke of genius. Between those two actorsand your writing & production, I could always count on DW to be entertaining but always thought-provoking, and often deeply moving. There were many times an episode brought me to tears. ANd last night was no exception.

Thank you so much for having given us The Doctor, and Torchwood, as well.

I wish you all the best in your next adventures!

  60. Hello Russell !

Just needed to say THANK YOU. Awesome telly... not looked forward to a telly programme for years. That was just magic. Felt just like a 37year old kid. When I was smaller we didn't have a video recorder, my Dad used to audio tape Dr Who for me on a Tuesday night when I went to Brownies !!! Ha... that was when Peter Davidson was the Doctor... I used to sit with my giant headphones on listening to the audio and the other random sounds the recorder would pick up ! Today with the magic that is Sky+ kids don't know how lucky they are !

Just wanted to say thankyou for making me smile. BRILLIANT !

    Love Steph x

  61. Hi Russell,

I have just watched, yet again, the final Dr Who and the following Confidential on BBC 3. What powerful stuff. I have never watched Dr Who until this series with David Tennant, who I adore! I cannot remember my boys, 38 and 35 years old, ever watching Dr Who all those long years ago, but I have been a very keen fan since David took the role.

Superb writing, acting, wonderful out of this world shots and computerised effects absolutely fabulous, scary moments too and I was so glad that you brought every one back into Dr Who's life, especially Rose! How I wept when they were so close and yet so far! Also, how I have wept at the end of this series. Wonderful TV. Many congratulations.

Will you stil be writing for the next series?

    Sally Harrison

    Halifax.

  62. Hi

I'm sure you get many requests of your recent works relating to Dr Who, but I am asking "why did you only write six episodes of Dark Season?". When the plot line was capable of so much more. I was only 14 at the time and could relate quite well to the characters and was poised for another series or two. I recently acquired it on DVD, although it would look better on blue ray, and have just watched it with my son (6), and he was glued to it! He is also glued to DR Who, but then what child isn't?

You probably wont read this, but hey its worth a try.

    Regards

  63. I am not an overly emotional person but the last two episodes of David Tennant's Dr had me in tears! The cast were brilliant but so was the writing, you have regenerated a slightly naff kids programme into something superb. May I say that Bernard Cribbins was amazing. Thank you Mr Davies and good luck in all you strive to do. Some of the best telly in years has come from your pen. Sue B xx

  64. Mr. Davies, I just saw "End of Time" here in the States.Your original work is on a par with Rod Serling's & Paddy Chayefsky's and your name should be included with them as the best of the best that film has seen. Need I say more?

Looking forward to seeing your future projects.

  65. thank you so much . I have loved doctor who and the end of time was just amazing ,

    good luck

  66. I didnt think you would be able to top your previous Dr Who special but the 2009 Christmas / New Year special was simply epic. Just epic.

There were several things I liked

Firstly I thought Bernard Cribbins was wonderful. He gave a fabulous performance. Too much these days on TV seems to be about being young hip and cool so it was good to see an older actor / character in a major role aimed at a younger audience. Good also to see Timothy Dalton back on our screens I thought he was well cast and gave a great performance

Secondly a lot of the story arcs were brought together to finally reveal a lot about the Doctor that we didnt know but always wondered about. The true origins and life of the mysterious Doctor were finally answered and put to bed.

Thirdly I liked how you brought out a darker side to the Doctor. We saw him angry and selfish and resentful at having to regenerate, something normally out of character for the Doctor (well atleast Davoid Tennants Doctor).

Finally being a bloke I didnt cry when the Doctor finally regenerated - even after the raft of tear jerking scenes and meeting of old friends. But I have to say its the best TV ive seen in ages, a sad but forfilling ending for the Doctor. An epic story finally told where all things were brought together from ALL previous series. The final act .The best Dr Who ever.

I have to say Russell without you and David Tennant I don't see how the Doctor Who series can continue, it simply can't be as popular or as entertaining now both of you have left.

  67. Dear Russell

It's simply astonishing what you've done with Doctor Who, and it's going to be hard to watch again knowing that both you and David have left. Like you, I was a fan when i was younger and honestly didn't think I'd get it again some 20 years on - WOW!

Good luck with whatever you do next, I'll be watching for sure.

    Jx

  68. Thanks Russell, for giving me the opportunity to share the love, joy and sadness of Doctor Who with my 11 and 9 your old sons over the last 5 years, who have know become the next generation of fans in the same way as I was with my father.

May you have all the peace, love, happiness and success in whatever you do in the future.

    DG.

  69. Russell

ThankSSSSSSSSSSS a lot!!!!! ...for you i discovered the Doctor Who Universe in 2005, i don't know nothing until that year, sorry my english is horrible, i'm from Santiago, Chile.

I'll miss your histories, the doctor never will be the same without you.

But i have Torchwood and The Sarah Jane with your touch!!!!

Now in spanish.....Eres un hombre increìble!!!! creo que jamàs volverè a ver tv de la forma en que me la cambiaste cuando creaste el retorno de Doctor Who y asi se lo he ido pasando a otra gente.....GRACIAS RUSSELL ERES EL MEJOR........y si pudiera tenerte cerca te darìa un tremendo beso!!!!!

    Abrazos desde Santiago de Chile.

  70. RTD

Thank You and Best Wshes. Your time with the Doctor has been the best 4 years of television I have seen in over 50 years of viewing. You will be missed!

  71. Davies:

I am absolutely speechless... End of time part two was the best Doctor Who episode I have ever seen.

    Thank You.

Good Luck with all your wild endeavours!!!!

  72. I first discovered the Doctor when I was about 20 on public TV, Channels 13 & 21 in NYC. I was a huge fan of Tom Baker’s Doctor. They stopped playing the Doctor and I lost track of him till you brought him back. Your stories brought a new life to the Doctor for me and countless others. He came alive to me in ways he never did before. I could feel the loneliness and sadness of his life in each episode. The Doctor, a Timelord, who can do anything but find happiness. Your final series was some of the most intense stories I have ever watched. Thank you for bringing the Doctor back to us, your writing skills will be missed. Much luck in your future endeavors.

  73. Being a big sci-fi fan I've seen the most ;)

What amazes me the most with Doctor Who is that all the time there was an "outside the box" thinking. Most TV-series sooner or later gets stagnant but you never knew what to expect from the next episode.

Might not be the largest sci-fi show but DEFINITLEY the best one, thanks to you!

You have brought many people wonderfull experiences, always be proud of that.

    Snowy regards from Sweden

  74. Your song has ended - let the universe sing you to sleep. God even as i type this i`m crying my eyes out. I`m 37 will remember 01/01/2010 forever - thankyou for bringing so much love, laughter and tears - Thank you Russell

    Neil

  75. Dear Russell,

Just felt compelled to write on this message board after seeing the final episode of the good doctor... Firstly, I want to thank you for bringing Doctor Who back onto our screens - you and your team have made an old fan very happy... and casting David Tennant in the role has proved to be a wonderful choice - he truly is the greatest doctor and my personal favourite of the entire run.

However, I can't thank you for making me cry for what seemed like an eternity last night! (I'm a fully grown man and crying isn't something I normally do!) The programme really hit home and the writing in David's final scenes was so poignant and full of sadness, I was clutching tissues for most of the episodes duration (wishing you would write in some last minute ''regeneration get out clause'' for David's character, but alas not to be)... you filled those moments with such beautiful lines as ''The universe will sing you to your sleep'' and ''I don't want to go'' - these will now be forever remembered.

I will miss both yours and Davids' input in the coming years for the series. Your passion and total joy for making the show shines through and becomes infectious for whom whoever watches. You have taken me back to a place when I was a small boy watching in awe as Tom Baker and Peter Davison fought rubber monsters and set their tardis for new adventures... David has been the perfect successor and I will mourn his characters passing... truly brilliant writing, production and acting - its been a pleasure to watch. Thank you.

  76. Dear Russell,

My Name is Osian and I am 6 years old, I would like to say thank you for all the wonderful stories, people (and aliens!) that have filled my mind and world for the last 4 years. Each and everyone has gripped my imagination (even to the point where I would not let my parents call me anything else but the Doctor when I was 4!!!) and would not go out to the kitchen in case there was a Slitheen or Dalek lurking in the conservatory!!!

My hero is always the Doctor when I am role-playing, and you have inspired me to take up acting, so when I am bigger I will hopefully get a chance to play the Doctor!!!

Thank you for a brilliant ending to the 10th Doctor, it was awesome and made everyone in my family cry (even my Dad!). My Mam also wants to thank you for Casanova and Queer as Folk, her favourite series ever!!!!!

We are so sorry to see you go, but look forward to your next project - Pob Lwc!!!!! xxxxx

  77. Thank you for bringing Dr Who to my attention through your writing. I also loved Casanova. So looking forward to seeing your future work.

    Best wishes

  78. Thanks Russell - you have produced a masterpiece.

Not just as chief writer but as "show-runner" - getting the casting right, recruiting the best producers, perfecting the mix of scifi/drama/comedy/kids TV, recreating "must-watch" family entertainment (which for once doesn't rely on Karaoke or dancing) and creating a focal point for the nation's memories.

You've managed the near-impossible job of keeping the majority of diehard fans happy while attracting huge mainstream audiences of 8-10 million is so rare in today's multi-channel and on-demand TV world.

Thank you Russell you deserve a national honour.

  79. Hi Mr. Davies!

thank you thank you thank you for writing the End of Time. I was in floods and floods and floods of tears, and it was the strangest experience of watching television that I have ever had. I've never been so desperate to watch something on television, and yet at the same time I almost couldn't bear to finish watching the last episode - I didn't want to see the Doctor go. I was so, so happy that the Doctor got to see everyone he loves for one last time, but at the same time i was a gibbering wreck by that stage. And of course there were all your brilliant funny moments that made me almost choke laughing and crying at the same time.

I have a question, though. Who is the woman, the female timelord who warns Wilf and stops the Doctor from pulling the trigger? For a moment, when she removed her hands which had been covering her face and looked straight at the doctor, I thought she was his mother. It seemed like it too, because she seemed quite protective of him. But then when he's asked about it at Donna's wedding, the Doctor's looking at Donna. And the woman herself tells Wilf that she was once "lost". Could the biological metacrisis turn Donna into a timelord in the future? Or is she someone completely else? I'm dying to know!

No one could have done a more perfect job of reviving Doctor Who than you. I'm looking forward to whatever projects you move on to next! Thank you again for making my 2009 end marvellously and my 2010 start magnificently.

All the very best to you, and have a great year!

    Tangy

  80. I have to say, I have loved Doctor who since it started again and my children loves it, you have done a wonderful job recreating it however I was a little disappointed at the last two episodes, I cried not for the reasons intended but because these last episodes have been hyped up and I was waiting for this real epic ending to the 10th doctor but it was a little lacking. My daughter asked me "mummy why didn't he go and get jack to let wilf out and he could have lived he didnt want to die did he?" I had to explain that David Tennant wanted to leave the show and she wasn't impressed with my reasoning. Maybe it would have been more epic and sad if the doctor was the only one who could save wilf where there was no other options where the self sacrifice is far greater. I don't know.

Thank you for 5 years of entertainment and for bringing back a wonderful scfi which i have and will continue sharing with my children

  81. Thanks Russell for a brilliant ending. If there is any truth in the rumour of Russell Tovey joining Torchwood I for one would be very pleased.

  82. Dear Russell,

I just felt I had to write and thank you for bringing Doctor Who back, and for doing it so brilliantly. I'm still in tears after watching The End of Time Part Two. Thank you for having the vision and determination to bring back a show that many had presumed dead, and for making it OK not just to like it but to obsess over it again, for two fantastic Doctors, for the great casting, your scripts, overseeing the scripts and plots. (Obviously that's not an exhaustive list!) I know that the show is a huge team effort, but you have lit a fire under it and made it happen. I have liked and admired your work for a long time and I'm looking forward with great anticipation and interest to see what you will do next.

Wishing you the very best of luck in your future endeavours, and have a very happy New Year,

    Kindest regards,

    Louisa

  83. Brilliant ending for the tenth doctor and the same can be said about torchwood "Children of earth".

  84. Hi Russell - it was great to see you in M&S at the end of December (I was the late 20s fan-boy who got a bit overexcited at seeing you!). I must admit that I have never bothered a celebrity before, but I just had to say something to you. You probably just heard a load of hurried, garbed rambling instead of any coherent speech - sorry about that!

What I wanted to say was a big thank you for all the excellent television work over the years - from the wonderful QaF (which had an impact on my life at the time that you probably could not imagine) to the fantastic Doctor Who and the spinoffs. I thoroughly enjoyed the other shows in between like The Second Coming and Bob and Rose.

Wishing you all the best for 2010, and I look forward to seeing your future work.

    Thanks again,

    Dave

  85. happy new yearxx

  86. I have to say you do excellent writing for DW. I would love to meet you and get your autograph. You have also inspired me to write and I have been writing Sci-Fi since 2008 and I think carefully what works and what doesn't and I have had alot of postive comments and reviews on them and I can't wait to see Part 2 tomorrow now.

Good Luck RTD and of course DT and everyone who worked on DW who are leaving at the end of the year.

  87. Russell, I would just like to take a couple of moments to thank you on behalf of myself and gay men all over the UK. Between yourself and Mr Bannerman you have raised the profile of gay men who work in the industry and introduced open "gayness" into primetime TV.

No longer will young kids be so afraid of their sexuality, as you have help make it "cool" for them to be who you are, whatever their gender or sexual preference.

3 Cheers buddy, it had to happen sometime and thank God it was you.

All the best in the future.

  88. Oh my god !!

    What the hell !!

Destroying Torchwood and Doctor Who !!!!

Russell T Davies is an amazing writer and just because the Torchwood and Doctor Who storyline hasn't gone your way your saying he has ruined it !!!

He is the greatest man ever, well apart from John Barrowman on course lol

Stop slagging him off he's amazing !!

    :)

  89. hello Mr Davis, my name is Dalia and I am from Israel

I have just Finished Watching the first part of Doctor Who the end of time.

I decided to take some time end THANK you for the awesome ending and for all of the 5 years of Doctor Who. your brain and imagination are very special. thanks for all the hard work. good luck in the future.

  90. Thank you for destroying Torchwood and now Doctor who too. STOP IT!

  91. Just thought you should know that tonite you have managed to reduce a 41 yr old ex - grenadier guard and a father of 2 girls to tears........ this was due to the fantastic scene between Bernard Cribbins and David Tennant in the cafe during the End of Time pt1 thank you for helping me relieve my childhood memories of the DR and proving everyone has at least one soft spot ( except for their children )in their armour. Once again thank you for bringing back a wonderful series with original and thrilling stories and i hope Bernard Cribbins receives a knighthood for his sins! THANKS!

  92. I just watched Waters of Mars. I originally thought that Journey's End in Series 4 was the best I"ve seen from you. Then, I saw Children of Earth, which was so unbelievable, I had to watch it twice. I thought, 'that' was the absolute best ever. Now, I've just seen Waters of Mars. Again, I am left wondering where your talents will take things next. Absolutely brilliant!

You are phenominal in every respect!

  93. Dear Mr Davies

I am a huge fan of Doctor Who and Torchwood and always eagerly await the latest episodes here in New Zealand. I was particularly amazed by your writing in Series 4 of Doctor Who- that ending was incredibly epic!

I was however, rather disappointed by Children of Earth. Although wonderfully written and brilliantly acted, it was a startlingly dark story, even for Torchwood. What bothered me the most was Ianto's death- I felt that it lacked meaning and reason other than the portrayal of the loss of innocent life in war. The previous two series of Torchwood have had some very dark moments and included some serious moral issues, but I think what has kept it so entertaining is the balance of comic moments amongst these messages. Many of these moments were created by Ianto's dry sense of humour and without him or Owen, Torchwood lacks the spark that it once had. Please bring back our coffee boy to Torchwood, at least some time in the future. It would make a wonderful Christmas present for so many of Ianto's followers.

I eagerly await the screening of David Tennant's final story here in New Zealand (whenever that may be) and thank you for a truly fantastic journey through time and space with the ninth and tenth Doctors.

All the best for your future ventures, and have a great Christmas

    Sincerely,

    Holly

  94. Dear mr.Davies i love your work really i do and i want to become a writer just lik you and i'm writing my own stories!! But you dont have take my word for this but can you give the doctor another women sidekick and make her like at the age of 14 or 16 years old, hers the story: she meets the doctor at her at her dance, and her date dumps her and she was outside crying and some monsters came and tried to attack her. She runs and hides and almost got caught then she heres a big KABOOM!! She comes out and finds the doctor and ask who are you? He says im the doctor, what were those things she asks. The doctor replies i dont know but there not suppos to be here and runs outside and she follows him. The doctor kills most of the monsters and the girl helps out then the leader of the monsters come out and takes the girl hostage in its gory slimy hands and eats her, The doctor finds a way to kill it ans he does, the the monster explose and the girl is coverd in goo from the monster! When everything gets cleanup the doctor asks her name and her name is katharine and he offer her the univerise and she thought about it and he mentions to her it travels in time and space and she didnt say anything but ran in the tardis and it began!! What do ya think? Hope you like it! Sincerly, Samantha Maxwell PS. can you keep david teenat for a little longer to tell you the truth that dude is sexy and i mean very very very sexyand sooooo FINE!! But anyway keep up the good work!

  95. I was thinking, might be crazy but it could work with all the twists in the plots, but Bernard Cribbins's character Wilfred Mott.... Since we have been hearing rumors of other timelords making a comeback, could there be a certain fob watch in his belongings he has but has no idea where it came from? It would be a great jumping off point for his come back and a graceful exit at the same time. The only question is who would be the new timelord?.. It could be another way to explain Donna's affinity for things timey-wimey.

Great show and I love what you've done with it. Keep up the good work.

  96. Hello Mr. Davies:

First, I would like to thank you for bringing back Dr. Who! I never even known it was refurbished and renewed until I had seen the first season dvd set on the shelf at the local library! I was first turned on to the Dr. during the Tom Baker series, which I believe Mr. Baker and Mr. Tennant are the only two Dr.s to have totally encompassed the whole being of who the Dr. is.

If at all possible, I would like to ask...how does someone who has a great idea for such a genre get to write and submit and idea, when they cannot write? I have such big "blockbusters" running around in my head, but I cannot write worth anything. What does one do?

I know you will probably never see this, Im sure you have tons of submissons on your shows as it is, but I thought I would "put it out there" anyway.

Thank you for bringing back the Dr. and for such shows as Queer As Folk.

    A fan,

    Kenneth

  97. hi russ...

just want to say well done and thank you for reviving and working your majic on dr who?

    k

  98. Dear Mr. Davies,

As many peolpe already think, and I just had to say it too: you're possibly the best writer of our generation, and I thank you for the brilliant and, for me, life changing entertainment you have brought to us over the years. Doctor Who and Torchwood are obviously amazing, and I'll miss David Tennant beyond belief, but you gotta change the Doctor at some point! It looks like the next series is going to be suddenly completely changed from the previous stories, and I wish it could have changed more gradually, but I guess that wasn't your decision at all. I am really looking to Matt Smith though, as he is quite brilliant too. The only thing I am very upset about is Torchwood: Children of Earth. I was so excited about it, but it not only disappointed me, but it devastated me more than a TV show should! OK, the obsession I have with it is my fault, but it is not fair to kill so many main characters TWO STORIES in a row, and Ianto was the most wonderful character. I couldn't bear to watch it without him. I can't imagine Torchwood without him and still can't quite figure out why anyone thought it was a good idea to kill him off in the first place. I watch Torchwood for sci-fi bliss, not to be reminded of depressing reality.

But apart from that, thanks for everything!

    £12.250

  99. WELL DONE FOR PUTTING THE DALEK ON TOP OF CAERPHILLY CASTLE

    DIOLCH FROM EVERYONE IN CAERPHILLY

MERRY CHRISTAMS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR

  100. URGENT MESSAGE!! URGENT MESSAGE!!!

    Mr Davies

We need more people from the classic series!! I mean, we have all these enemies from the classic series (the master, the daleks, the cybermen) but the only return of a classic companion has been Sarah-Jane Smith and look how well that went!! Elisabeth Sladen has her own show now!! Although, I'm unaware if that is gonna continue after series 3 (by the way, no offense, but the amount of time The Doctor spent in the series was so short, hardly worth David Tennant's time, although it is quality not quantity that matters and it was great). Anyway, in a way to kick you off, as it were, I would suggest Turlough as portrayed by Mark Strickson, he was always a favourite of mine. Thank you for reading this and I hope you take it into consideration although you may not and that's no problem. I hope you don't take any offence to any of my comments. Love your work!!

    Felix Jones
